Fuel Borne Catalyst for Improved Thermal Efficiency


The use of fuel additives have become an accepted practice for diesel-based operations as engine owners seek to maximize their profits and reduce fuel expense. A Fuel Borne Catalyst (FBC) is a type of fuel additive that improves combustion directly. This is unlike other fuel additive types, e.g., detergents, lubricants, and fuel stabilizers that may improve fuel properties but do nothing to increase the actual combustion rate of fuel – that is, the conversion of chemical energy stored in fuel molecules into heat energy that produces work from an internal combustion engine. It is well documented that diesel fuel treated with Fuel Borne Catalyst (FBC) produces engine efficiency improvements of up to 10%. This effect has been measured directly through controlled engine testing performed by certified 3rd parties.  The engine tests are repeatable and reproducible; the effect of significant fuel savings with the use of a FBC is no longer under dispute. The use of Fuel Borne Catalysts (FBC) is now common place by “early adopters” in the marine industry, including harbor service vessels, inland waterways barge operations, yachts, and cruise vessels. 

Green Framework LLC has partnered with an industry leading supplier of fuel additives to develop a proprietary FBC additive specially formulated for the marine cargo and passenger cruise ship industry.  The ROI estimate ranges from 150% to 300% depending on the type of diesel and fuel price. The use of our FBC is a verified means of offsetting higher fuel costs.

The options for automation of fuel treatment with the FBC are simple and straight-forward; we offer either bulk treatment using military grade additive metering equipment or industry standard additive injection equipment.

In summary, FBC fuel additive technology stands alone as a type of fuel additive that directly improves the combustion of all types of diesel and residual fuel oils. The benefits of improved engine efficiency go above and beyond “restoring” efficiency previously lost to accumulated carbon deposits and/or degraded fuel properties. The combustion efficiency improvements achieved with the FBC are greater than baseline efficiency of a new engine, all other factors remaining the same.  Correspondingly, the effect that our FBC has on lowering exhaust gas emissions is significantly greater than other fuel additive types, also independently verified as referenced in the table, below.

The proprietary FBC maximizes fuel efficiency by facilitating a more complete burn of higher molecular weight hydro-carbon species. These heavier, slower to burn molecules are characteristic of residual fuel oils that have higher sulfur content; they are a major contributor to soot and smoke emissions as well as formation of carbon deposits on piston heads, rings, and exhaust-side components.

Immediate Results: End-users report immediate abatement of exhaust stack soot and smoke.  Other benefits are increased power, quieter, smoother engine operation (less engine vibration) and absence of carbon build-up on internal engine parts.
